Outside Lands music festival

I jumped at the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Outside Lands festival when it was first announced earlier in the year. As the months progressed and more of the acts were solidified it really proved to shape up into a great music festival.

The weather was great - with Sunday providing the best sunny day and none of the days experiencing really bad fog.

Meghan and I made it all three days and were joined by Gabe, Liza and Keith for Saturday.

There are too many bands with too many stages and too many concurrent shows to see all of the acts, so we made our choices and were generally happy with what we saw.

On Friday night we started with Beck followed by Radiohead. As much as we wanted to see Beck we just didn't have a great position and decided to sacrifice the rest of the show for a better spot for the Radiohead performance - which was amazing.

On Saturday we started (later in the afternoon) with Steve Winwood just as a place to put down our blankets and have some food. We followed that with Regina Spektor and Cake followed with Tom Petty. These acts were pretty good but I didn't think this was one of our better days.

On Sunday we finished off with The Mother Hips before making our way over to the Twin Peaks stage where we squatted for the rest of the afternoon with our food and New York Times listening to very entertaining music from Andrew Bird and Broken Social Scene before standing up and getting a closer view of Wilco. We had to leave early so we enjoyed Jack Johnson on our walk back out of the park.

We missed so much of the music but ultimately if you try to see too much, we felt, you end up running between stages and not really enjoying the day. And we didn't spend any time in any of the tents like the wine tasting area or the CrowdFire space but I'm quite sure I'd skip that in the future too.

One band that we only heard for a moment was K'Naan - and they seemed to be really rocking and we'd love to catch them again soon.
