Home/2008 photos/Hiking Round Top Peak

A day hike South of Lake Tahoe Meghan and I spent a night car camping at Woods Lake Campground just off of highway 88. Woods Lake is a great campground and the lake itself offers an easy access to a nice swimming lake that even has cabin rentals along its shores. In the morning, after packing up the campsite, we set off for our hike. We made a loop hiking up to Winnemucca Lake and then up to Round Top lake. From Round Top lake we hiked up to Round Top Peak. I realized, somewhere along the hike, that Round Top Peak is where I've gone skiing before, on some of the Carson Pass outings. The scenery definitely looked familiar. While at Winnemucca Lake we were fortunate enough to see a bird of prey (we weren't close enough to identify it) go fishing and successfully pull a fish out of the water - it was quite a sight to see. From Round Top Lake we hiked down through some active mining claims back to the Woods Lake campground and our car. After a quick splash in the lake we were in the car headed back home
