Home/2009 photos/Echo Lakes overnight snowshoe

Meghan and I spend a night out in the snow On a bright Sunny Friday in March Meghan and I took off for an adventure in the Sierra. We parked at the snow park area and strapped on our snowshoes for the hike in. The hike starts with a gentle climb during which there are peeks of views out over Lake Tahoe. From there. the trail dips down to the Echo Lakes. We were lucky to have the lakes still frozen so we made our way directly across the frozen water. We crossed both the lower and upper lakes and entered the wilderness area. Then the search for the perfect campsite began. We found a great little spot with trees to shelter us from any wind but open views of the surrounding mountains. After setting up camp we enjoyed a little wine and whiskey with our dinner before heading into the warmth of our sleeping bags. We were prepared to stay for 2 night but Saturday morning's red skies (which we were expecting) convinced us that this time 1 night was the perfect trip. We packed up camp, covered our tracks, and made our way back across the windy lakes towards the car. What a beautiful weekend. One neither of us will forget.
