Home/2009 photos/South America/Torres Del Paine wildlife

shots of birds and mammals In addition to great scenic vistas, Torres Del Paine also has a great variety of wildlife within its borders. Unfortunately, I didn't see as much as I would have liked - I was always on the lookout for more mammals especially - but they just never seemed to appear. The few photos that I have here are mostly birds though I did manage to finally see a fox! The guanacos (the llama lookin things) I only saw on the road into and out of the park. I did see some condors - there was especially one group that was fantastically perched on these rocks as we bussed into the park but our driver didn't stop and so there was no chance for a photo. When I was able to grab a photo it was at a distance. (There was 1 other opportunity for a close shot but the bird just flew very briefly in bad lighting and then was gone.) The birds on the other hand were everywhere throughout the park and their various calls were a constant for the duration of the hike. Some of the smaller birds really darted around but I was able to grab a few shots - mostly because I was traveling on my own at a pretty slow pace.
